Cushing Terrell is seeking a Software Engineer III to serve as a senior technical lead on a small internal engineering team. This hands-on role involves designing, building, and maintaining in-house software that supports critical business workflows. You will write production code, provide technical leadership, and mentor other engineers while working with stakeholders across operations, finance, engineering, and architecture. A key focus is modernizing legacy desktop applications with modern, maintainable systems while ensuring business continuity.Position Salary Range*
$107,000 to $137,000 annually.
Required Qualifications**
- 8+ years of software development experience
- Strong skills in designing, developing, testing, and maintaining production systems
- Experience making architectural decisions for reliable, maintainable systems
- Experience leading and mentoring engineers
- Modernizing or replacing legacy systems
- Advanced SQL and relational database experience (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL)
- Building web-native applications in JavaScript/TypeScript (Node, React, or similar)
- Familiarity with Linux and Windows environments
- Proficiency with Git and collaborative platforms
- Ability to debug complex production issues
- Clear communication of technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications**
- C# and .NET Windows desktop experience
- Experience supporting internal business teams
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools

Position Responsibilities***

- Provide architectural guidance, code review, task delegation, and mentorship
- Lead replacement of legacy applications with modern technologies
- Partner with stakeholders to prioritize high-value solutions
- Manage competing priorities and make informed technical/business tradeoffs
- Ensure code quality, reliability, security, and maintainability
- Diagnose and resolve complex production issues
- Participate in after-hours support as needed
- Stay current with evolving technologies and AI-assisted tools

*Actual pay will be determined based on the candidates years of experience, licensure status, location, level of proficiency, and other job-related factors (as permitted by law). This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus.
